DR. GREG D’ORIO

Dr. Greg D’Orio is the patriarch of his family, working alongside his son Steven in their family trade. The elder D’Orio graduated from the University of Waterloo optometry program in 1980 and is an expert in ocular health, as he has been practicing optometry for over 35 years. Furthermore, he has operated his own practice from the beginning of his career, providing him business sense and customer care skills that are unrivalled. His practice has provided optometric care for all types of treatments, including: pre/post-cataract management, pre/post-laser eval, retinal and systemic disease, diabetic and hypertensive exams, specialty contact lenses (soft and rigid lenses), pediatric examination and more.

 

A member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, Dr. D’ Orio’s community involvement is also highly regarded. He is the co-founder and Vice President of Vaughan in Motion, a non-profit organization raising money to fight cancer. He is also a Eucharistic Minister at St. David’s Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He has volunteered in the Special Olympics, in addition to his regular visits to elderly patients in nursing homes and house calls.

 

Over the years, Dr. D’Orio has established a practice that adheres to his dreams and goals; which is to fulfill his goal of helping and caring for people with eye related issues. Alongside his son, he hopes to continue helping those in need.

DR. STEVEN D’ORIO

While Dr. Steven D’Orio’s entry into the world of optometry is relatively young, his passion for eye care has existed for many years. A young professional, Steven brings his unique perspective and skill set and has partnered with his father, Dr. Greg D’Orio.

 

Together, they have the experience to help you with all your problems and concerns regarding eye care. Dr. D’Orio’s passion for eye care goes back to his days in high school, where he discovered his natural understanding of the human eye during science class. Having completed a Biomedical Sciences degree at the University of Waterloo, in addition to completing his Doctor of Optometry from Salus University in Pennsylvania, Dr. Dorio has the international experience that has provided him expertise in what works and how to care for every type of patient, young or old, afraid or ecstatic.

 

Additionally, Dr. D’Orio has expertise working in triage for ocular emergencies in hospitals as well as having experience working in the low vision aspect field. To say he is well rounded, like a healthy eyeball, would be an understatement.

 

Dr. D’Orio underwent further training at the Wills Eye Hospital, where he specialized in contact lenses. Always pursuing more knowledge, a recent focus has been on the future of glaucoma treatment, which can rob patients of sight if not diagnosed and treated early. In fact, he envisions a world without glaucoma using preventative procedures and early-detection methods from the latest drugs to optical coherence tomography.

 

Whether it’s cutting-edge solutions or conventional optometry practices, Dr. Steven D’Orio covers a wide range of eye care solutions all for the D’Orio family tradition of helping people see their best.

DR. AMIT BHATIA

Dr. Amit Bhatia grew up in Mississauga and completed his Bachelor of Health Sciences Honours Degree with distinction at McMaster University. He then completed his Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo. During his Optometry training, he worked at primary care clinics such as the Health Sciences Optometry Clinic in Kitchener, and took part in teaching family medicine residents about common examination techniques.

 

Dr. Bhatia took a special interest in ocular disease during his externship at Tallahassee Veterans Affair Outpatient Clinic in Tallahassee, Florida. There he received extensive training in the diagnosis, management and treatment of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. He also had the opportunity to observe live cataract and retinal surgeries. Dr. Bhatia’s primary interests including managing and treating ocular disease with special interest in glaucoma and chronic dry eye disease. He is excited to be able to use the latest diagnostic equipment at Dr. D’Orio Eyecare to help properly diagnose and treat his dry eye patients. He is certified to prescribe oral and topical medications.

 

Dr. Bhatia is an active member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario, Canadian Association of Optometrists and Ontario Association of Optometrists. He is fluent in English and Hindi. Outside the clinic, Dr. Bhatia enjoys photography, reading books, learning about film-making and traveling.

DR. NOELDA FERNANDES

Dr. Noelda Fernandes completed her Honours Bachelor Of Science at the University of Toronto before going on to pursue her optometry training at the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO) in Chicago, USA. During her training she developed essential skills in the treatment and management of binocular vision, diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, pre and post-operative care and specialized contact lenses.

 

Her passion in giving back to the community is demonstrated during her time at ICO where she was involved in a mission trip to Belize. There she provided optometric care to the underprivileged community in Belize.

 

After graduation, she went onto pursue further residency training in Pediatric Optometry at SUNY College of Optometry and Woodhull Medical Center in New York. During residency, Dr. Fernandes gained expertise in the area of pediatrics, special needs examination and vision therapy.She has presented posters at academic meetings including AmericanAcademy of Optometry (AAO) and College of Optometrists in Visual Development (COVD) as well as delivered a COPE (The Council on Optometric Practitioner Education) approved lecture.

 

She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO). She is an active member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario and the American Academy of Optometry (AAO).

 

Dr. Fernandes is board certified to practice in both the United States and Canada

DR. GURLEEN GREWAL

Dr. Gurleen Grewal attended the University of Windsor where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Honours Biological Sciences. She then went on to pursue her Doctor of Optometry degree at the Illinois College of Optometry.

 

During school, Dr. Grewal received training for ocular disease in Denver, Colorado as well as Atlanta, Georgia. She was also an extern at our very own Dr. D’Orio Eyecare! Through her training, Dr. Grewal became equipped with diagnosing, managing, and treating diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, dry eye disease, and myopia management. She also observed live cataract surgeries and managed pre- and post-operative care for cataract surgery. Dr. Grewal is passionate about providing excellent eye care to the community, and the technology and equipment at Dr. D’Orio Eyecare allows her to do just that.

 

Dr. Grewal is a member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario, Ontario Association of Optometrists, and Canadian Association of Optometrists. She is board-certified in the United States and Canada.

 

When Dr. Grewal is not in the clinic, she enjoys reading, traveling, and exploring what Toronto has to offer!
